In Muslim communities being gay is highly frowned upon. Most people keep their sexuality a secret to their families, in fear of the often brutal and life-changing consequences. Though living in Denmark where homosexuality is widely accepted, the norms of Muslim families has a big influence on their life. Many loose contact with their families or suffer worse consequences. These people have all experienced the obstacles of being gay and growing up in a Muslim community.
"I cannot change my self. As well as I won't live without islam in my life, I won't live my life without my partner, who means the world to me. It is part of who I am." says Michael Sinan (right). Michael is muslim but his boyfriend Mikael Costa (left) is an atheist.
